Saddick Adams, a sports journalist, has called on FIFA to punish referee Ismail Elfath for awarding Portugal the “wrong” penalty.
Many people have expressed their displeasure with the referee who awarded a penalty to Christiano Ronaldo during yesterday’s match between Ghana and Portugal.
The referee has been chastised for awarding Ronaldo a penalty and for refusing to consult the VAR. Some social media users have also chastised him for awarding the Portugal team a free kick for a foul.
In response to the outpouring of support online, sports journalist Saddick Adams described Ismail Elfath as an apology from a referee and urged FIFA to sanction the official.
“Dear @FIFAcom, this is a public protest asking you to review and suspend this referee, Ismail Elfath. He’s an apology of a referee and shouldn’t be doing this at this level. Game-changing decisions without remorse.”.
